ISLAMABAD: Welcoming the decision of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to stop anchor Aamir Liaquat from spreading hate speech, more than 100 editors and columnists condemned the hate speech and incitement to violence by Amir against leading journalist Imtiaz Alam and dozens of other journalists on extremely flimsy and misleading charges. In his TV show on January 23, Amir levelled allegations against journalist Imtiaz Alam in an extremely unethical and irresponsible manner. They said that the allegations and accusations levelled by Amir Liaquat against Imtiaz Alam were baseless and meant to incite violence. Prominent among the signatories were: senior columnist Muno Bhai, former Express editor M Ziauddin, Express Editor Ayaz Khan, The News Editor Talat Aslam, The Nation editor Salim Bukhari, Mashriq Editor Syed Mumtaz Shah, Awaz Editor Khalid Farouquie, columnist Nusrat Javed, SAFMA Pakistan General Secretary Sirmed Manzoor, senior columnist Attaul Haq Qasmi, anchorperson Asma Shirazi and various office-bearers of press clubs across the country.
