ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday warned that any Indian misadventure of surgical strikes could endanger regional peace and stability.
Referring to the Indian army chief’s statement on surgical strikes, Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria during the weekly press briefing said that such irresponsible statements could cause uncomfortable environment, not only for Pakistan but also for regional countries.
“Pakistan urges the international community to take notice of such absurd lies and false claims on India’s behalf,” he added.
“In 2016, the then director general ISPR Lt General Asim Salim Bajwa also described the Indian claim of surgical strike as totally baseless. To prove, he took national and international media representatives to the area where India had claimed to have [conducted] surgical strikes,” he said.
He said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his address to the United Nations General Assembly reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to protect its sovereignty and integrity. The spokesperson further said that Pakistan rejects the role of India in Afghanistan. “India wants to spread terrorism and chaos in Pakistan.”
To a question, the spokesperson said that India had been playing the role of spoiler under the garb of development in Afghanistan.
Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was in contact with banned outfits such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, said Zakaria, adding that TTP also took financial assistance from RAW.
He said RAW had developed clandestine connections with terrorist outfits in Afghanistan to foment terror in Pakistan. “Indian role in Afghanistan is not constructive, rather destructive,” he added.
The spokesperson said that Pakistan supports all initiatives including Quadrilateral Coordination Group and Heart of Asia aimed at bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan.
To another query, he said that India could not deny the use of pellet guns against Kashmiris, and urged the international community to take notice of the threatening tone of India.
He said that human rights situation in Indian-held Kashmir was constantly deteriorating. “Seven Kashmiris have been martyred in the last week.” He said India was using every inhuman measure to suppress the indigenous movement for self-determination. “India continued with unprovoked ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LOC) and the Working Boundary, targeting civilians, deliberately.”
He said that illegal detention of Kashmiri leaders in inhuman and life-threatening conditions continued in violation of all the relevant international conventions on human rights and humanitarian laws. He said that the prime minister had also submitted a comprehensive dossier on HR violations in IHK to the UN secretary-general during his visit to the 72nd UN General Assembly session.
The spokesman said that Pakistan and China were discussing including names of more countries in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He said that CPEC was a flagship project of One Belt, One Road (OBOR) and was envisaged to bring prosperity to the region and beyond. “The project also envisages participation of third countries. However, CPEC is currently in its initial phase and is, therefore, being executed as a bilateral undertaking between Pakistan and China.”
