LAHORE: Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, his aides Prof Malik Zafar Iqbal, Abdur Rehman Abid, Qazi Kashif Hussain and Abdullah Ubaid, Wednesday moved a petition before the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging their fresh detention orders issued by the Punjab government.
Counsel for petitioners AK Dogar stated that the detention of his clients was due to expire on July 27 but the Punjab government had issued a fresh order extending their detention.
He said that the new order was a gross violation of human rights and freedom as guaranteed by the constitution.
He said that the case of the petitioners’ detention was already pending before the LHC. He stated that the government’s decision to extend detention of his clients was unlawful. On January 28, the Interior Ministry had recommended the provincial government to put the petitioners under detention on a plea that the JuD and its sister organisation – Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) – were allegedly engaged in certain activities that could be prejudicial to peace and security, and were in violation of Pakistan’s obligations to the United Nation’s Security Council Resolution No 1267. The provincial government by placing both organisations in the second schedule of ATA had issued the order.
